Cullowhee, N.C. -
Catamount football returned to the practice field on Wednesday evening in its first full-pads practice at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field since Spring Break. Western Carolina's seventh practice represented the mid-point of drills this spring.
Wednesday's session included 16 periods with the offense spending a lot of time on its tempo in running plays, while the defense had multiple sessions in individual position work before coming back together as a whole. The team worked through skell drills with the skill players, offense vs. defense, before adding the linemen in a short scrimmage session.
As has become fairly standard and customary under Mark Speir, Wednesday's practice concluded with intra-squad competition.
The team was scheduled to practice in just helmets and shoulder pads on Thursday, but unfavorable forecasts including rain most of the day have prompted the coaching staff to move the practice date to Friday, originally an off-day.
WCU will work through practice No. 8 on Friday before a scheduled scrimmage on Saturday morning, the fourth practice this week. The Catamounts are scheduled for two on-field sessions next week before wrapping-up the spring with another four-practice week April 15 - 20 with the Spring Game event slated for Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 pm.
