Catamount Football Resumes Spring Drills Monday, April 1

April 1, 2013

Cullowhee, N.C. - Donning the purple domes one evening after returning from Spring Break, the Catamount football team returned to the turf at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field on Monday evening as spring practice continued. Monday's session wasn't originally on the schedule, but rain back on March 18 forced the postponement of practice with WCU head coach Mark Speir rescheduling for the first day of April.

"We spent most of Monday's practice reviewing what we've accomplished so far this spring, while getting the guys back into practice mode," said Speir of Monday's practice session. "Missing one of our scheduled practices before Spring Break gave us this opportunity to get back out here in helmets only to get back in rhythm. Even with that said, we got after it looking to make improvements and take full advantage of today's practice."

WCU worked through a 15-period practice on Monday. Most of the practice - the sixth of the spring for the Catamount football team - was spent in position drills with the main team sessions going in skell work and 7-on-7 drills.

Only three Catamounts wore the red jerseys on Monday signifying injury or limited participation. Wide receiver Tyler Klipa and defensive back Terrence Green were limited, still recovering from injuries that cut their 2012 season short. Also, wide out Garrett Brown was limited after re-aggravating a hamstring injury during drills with tight end Dylan Davis also limited on Monday as he has been all spring.

Monday's practice was one of four scheduled this week for the Catamounts, weather permitting. The team is slated to return to the turf for a fully-padded practice on Wednesday with a shells (helmet and shoulder pads only) practice on Thursday ahead of a scrimmage session on Saturday.

All told, WCU will practice a combined four times this week, twice next week and again four times the following week to reach the NCAA-regulated 15 practice dates.

WCU has nine more practice dates this spring including the annual Spring Game event on Saturday, April 20, fans first chance to see the makings of the 2013 Catamount football team. Festivities on April 20 are scheduled to begin around 1:00 pm.

As a reminder to season ticket holders, the date to reserve the same seats from a year ago is rapidly approaching on June 30. For more information, visit CatamountSports.com or call 800-34-GOWCU.
