Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina held its seventh practice of its annual spring drills on Friday afternoon at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field, working out in full pads in a two-hour session that included the largest scrimmage session of the spring.
Quarterbacks DJ Thorpe and returning starter Tyrie Adams saw the bulk of the work in the offensive backfield on Friday. Among some of the highlights catches by both tight ends included a great leaping grab by Owen Cosenke and flare to Austin Phillips. Cosenke also hauled in a TD pass from Thorpe on the day. Jordan Mathis hauled in a catch, as did running back Connell Young out of the backfield. Young was flanked by returning backs Donnavan Spencer and Corey Holloway at the running back position.
Defensively, cornerback Terrence Wilson thwarted an offensive drive with an interception in the end zone, with defensive pressure from the front seven credited with a couple sacks with Southern Conference officials on hand for the scrimmage.
The practice included some special teams work with Ian Berryman continuing to look impressive with booming kicks during the drill.
