Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina head football coach Kent Briggs announced today that Ricky Logo has been named assistant head coach. Logo joined the staff this past February as the defensive line coach.

"I am very excited to elevate Ricky Logo to assistant head coach," Briggs said. "His leadership qualities and his outstanding coaching organization will greatly enhance our football program. I have full confidence that Ricky will do an excellent job with the added administrative responsibilities that goes with this appointment."

Logo spent the past seven seasons as the defensive line coach at Chattanooga, including one season (1999) as defensive coordinator. Under his direction, Moc defensive tackle Tyler Unzicker earned All-American honors this past fall, while being tabbed All-Southern Conference. Logo also coached All-SoCon performers Kareem Robinson and Kenny Sanders.

Logo's association with Briggs dates back to when Logo was a player at North Carolina State (1988-92) and Briggs was an assistant coach. Logo was an All-American defensive tackle with the Wolfpack and played in three collegiate all-star games, including the Hula Bowl, East-West Shrine Game and the Japan Bowl. The 1992 N.C. State graduate signed as a free agent with the Detroit Lions, but suffered a career-ending injury during his first season.

Western Carolina will close its first week of Spring Practice with a session in full gear on Friday and the team's first full contact practice on Saturday morning. The Catamounts will continue drills until Saturday, April 13, when the Department of Athletics hosts "Catamounts Spring Sports Day." Festivities on the 13th begin at 1:00 pm, as Western's Baseball team hosts the College of Charleston. The baseball game will be followed by a Barbeque at Whitmire Stadium at 4:00 pm, with the Spring Game set to start at 5:00 pm. The cost of the barbeque will be $5 per person. However, there will not be a charge for fans attending the Spring Game.
