Cullowhee, N.C. - Inclement weather including rain showers and forecasted thunderstorms through the evening hours have prompted the Western Carolina football coaching staff to cancel Monday evening's practice session scheduled for the turf at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field.
WCU was scheduled to hold its fourth practice of its annual spring drills on Monday evening with it marking the first in full pads. It is expected that the first fully-padded practice will be delayed until Wednesday (March 20) with afternoon meetings giving way to on-field activities around 5:30 pm.
The football team will hold two more practice sessions this week including practices Wednesday and Thursday before the University's Spring Break which runs from the close of business on March 22 through March 31. WCU will move Monday's cancelled practice date to after the break giving the squad 10 opportunities in April to hit the turf.
The Catamounts opened spring practice back on a chilly Wednesday, March 13 and have held two sessions in helmets only with drills last Saturday (March 16) going with helmets and shoulder pads. WCU is scheduled to wrap-up its NCAA regulated 15-days of practice with the annual Spring Game event on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 pm.
All WCU spring football practices are open to the public. It is respectfully requested that spectators observe from the stadium seating area and avoid being either on the field or sidelines.
