Cullowhee, N.C. -
One week before opening the regular season, Western Carolina head softball coach Christine Hornak will be the in-studio guest on "In the Litterbox," a weekly interactive sports talk show produced and aired on WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5. Also, as the nation focuses on National Signing Day, WCU football recruiting coordinator, Andy Follett, will join in as he discusses the student-athletes who inked National Letters of Intent (NLIs) on Wednesday.
The show airs tonight (Wednesday, Feb. 6) from 7:00 until 8:00 pm and can also be heard online at www.WWCUFM.com. Fans can comment by calling (828) 227-7173 during tonight's show.
Hornak, who is entering her second season at the helm of the Catamount softball program, guided WCU to its first-ever wins at the Southern Conference tournament last season after the inaugural squad captured the conference regular season title two years ago. She will be joined by a pair of junior infielders, Stephanie Beatty - who was a first team All-SoCon selection a year ago - and Heather Pritchard, who garnered first team all-conference accolades her freshman season.
Western opens its 2008 campaign next Wednesday, Feb. 13 as it visits regional power, South Carolina, which advanced to the NCAA Super Regional a year ago.
The show will also highlight Western Carolina's football recruiting class for 2008, the first under new head coach Dennis Wagner. Andy Follett, who in addition to serving as the recruiting coordinator also coaches the Catamount wide receivers, will field questions about the incoming class for next fall.
In its third season, "In the Litterbox" (ITL) spotlights Western Carolina Catamount athletics with discussion of events, as well as interviews with coaches, student-athletes and other Catamount personalities. The show is co-hosted by WCU student, Josh Thompson, of Lincolnton, N.C., and Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, Daniel Hooker, and is produced by station student general manager, Kyle McCurry.
WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 continues to serve as the Flagship Station of Catamount Athletics this season, broadcasting Catamount football, men's and women's basketball, and baseball. WWCU has also been a partner with WCU Athletics in broadcasting the SoCon Women's Soccer Championship and NCAA tournament appearance, as well as the first-ever Catamount Softball games two years ago continuing with both the softball and baseball SoCon tournaments.
