Newsome to Play for National Team at NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina all-purpose running back Detrez Newsome will suit up for the National Team in the seventh-annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl slated for this Saturday, Jan. 20 at the historic Rose Bowl Stadium. Slated to wear jersey No. 32, Newsome is one of 22 NCAA FCS players among the combined 112-man roster that was divided into two teams – National and American.

Coached by Super Bowl-winning coach Mike Martz, Newsome – who is listed as a running back and kick returner – will be joined on the National team by fellow Southern Conference member, LB Octavious Davis from Chattanooga.

The seventh annual postseason all-star game is slated to take place on Saturday, January 20, culminating a week-long experience which began back on Monday, Jan. 15. Participants will learn about the business of football and practice for the all-star game which is scheduled for 4:00 pm ET / 1:00 pm PT kickoff, and will be televised on FS1, as well as the Fox Sports Go app and on (with a cable subscription).

All told, nearly 200 scouts, player personnel staff, general managers and head coaches from all 32 NFL teams are expected be in attendance throughout the NFLPA Bowl week.
