Notes:
Western Carolina concluded the first-season under head coach Dennis Wagner with a 3-9 overall record and a 1-7 tally in Southern Conference play ... it marks the most seasonal wins for the Catamounts since 2005 when WCU finished 5-4 and played at ASU for a share of the SoCon crown ... a total of 20 members of the Western Carolina Catamount football family were recognized prior to the game as participating in their final home in Cullowhee on Saturday afternoon.

APPALACHIAN STATE RETAINS THE "OLD MOUNTAIN JUG":
In Western Carolina's mountain rival game with Appalachian State, the Mountaineers won their fourth straight over Western Carolina - and 22nd of the last 24 meetings - to retain possession of the "Old Mountain Jug." The Mountaineers have 22 of the 32 all-time games played in Cullowhee.

CATAMOUNT'S CAIN IS ABLE:
Western Carolina freshman punter Blake Cain punted a career-high -- and WCU school-record -- 13 times in Saturday's home loss to No. 2 Appalachian State ... his 13 punts surpass the 18-year old previous record of 12 held by former punter, Kenny Pauley, who punted 12 times at North Carolina State in 1990.

MOUNTAINEERS WIN SOCON CROWN OUT-RIGHT:
By virtue of their unbeaten season, including home wins over both Elon and Wofford, Appalachian State claimed the 2008 Southern Conference football title out-right ... ASU claimed at least a share of the title with its win over Elon last week, which also clinched the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA FCS playoffs.

AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS:
With the loss to No. 2 Appalachian State, Western Carolina finished the season a combined 0-6 against nationally-ranked opponents this season ... WCU dropped to 11-62-3 all-time against teams in the nation's top 25, dropping its 11th-straight to a ranked foe since last downing No. 19 Eastern Kentucky, 20-17, in the 2006 season.

COLLINS COLLECTS ANOTHER:
Junior nickelback Chris Collins forced his sixth fumble of the year in the first quarter against Appalachian State ... he leads both the team and the Southern Conference in that category.

JAYNES RUSHES FOR TD:
Red-shirt freshman QB Zack Jaynes rushed for his second touchdown of the season - and career - late in the first quarter on Saturday ... His one-yard TD plunge capped off a seven play 48-yard drive that gave Western Carolina an early 7-0 lead over its rival Appalachian State.

THIRD LARGEST CROWD:
A total of 14,213 fans were in attendance at Saturday's game - the third largest crowd in E.J. Whitmire Stadium history ... Currently, the top five attendances in Cullowhee have all been against Appalachian State, including the all-time high of 15,247 in the 1994 "Battle for the Old Mountain Jug."

CAREER-HIGH FOR MCLEOD:
WCU junior LB Adrian McLeod recorded a career-high 17 tackles, including eight solo stops, a sack and 3.5 tackles for loss in Saturday's game against Appalachian State.
