Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina sophomore guard James Sinclair was tabbed as the top performer from the Southern Conference last week by College Sports Madness and released online through their website. Sinclair led the Catamounts in two games last week, averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Sinclair was one of 33 players recognized by the website in earning conference player of the week plaudits - the first honor of his collegiate career.
Against 13th-ranked Illinois last Tuesday, Sinclair scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds, four coming on the offensive end. He also dished out three assists against the Fighting Illini. In Saturday's home win over archrival Appalachian State, the Savannah, Ga., native finished with a dozen points on 4-of-7 shooting with seven boards and a pair of assists
On the season, Sinclair is averaging a career-best 7.8 points per game - an average that has jumped over a point and a half over his last three games as he has scored in double figures in a career-long three-straight. Since moving into the starting lineup at Furman on Nov. 28, Sinclair has averaged 10.3 points and six rebounds per game.
Western Carolina (4-6) is amidst its final exam break, returning to action this Saturday, Dec. 15 as it travels to Washington, D.C., to face the 15th-ranked Georgetown Hoyas at the Verizon Center. The first-ever meeting between the two squads will be televised on MASN and ESPN3 with a Noon tip-off.
