Trey Sumler was named Player of the Week by the Southern Conference for the second week of the season.

Western Carolina men's basketball player Trey Sumler has been announced as the Southern Conference Player of the Week by the league's office Tuesday morning.
Sumler averaged 18.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists over three games last week. The senior scored a career-high 35 points in Western Carolina's 98-90 win over Niagara as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Kent, Ohio. He added 10 assists against the Golden Flashes to record his first double-double of the season.
Sumler followed up that performance with 16 points and nine rebounds in a loss to USC Upstate.
He is the fifth-leading scorer in the conference with 17.2 points per game and ranks second in assists (4.5 apg).
It is his second honors of the week as Sumler was named SoCon Player of the Week by College Sports Madness on Monday.
Sumler will lead the Catamounts Tuesday night against Limestone at 7 p.m. in the Ramsey Center.
