Western Carolina to Host Sub-Regional Rounds of O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic, Nov. 23-25

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina University and the Liston B. Ramsey Regional Activity Center will play host to the Sub-regional round of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic beginning Monday, Nov. 23 through Wednesday, Nov. 25. The three-day event features double-header men's basketball action each day beginning at 5:00 pm, with the host Catamounts playing the night cap at 7:30 pm each day.

A combined twelve teams are competing in the ninth annual O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic. Texas, Pittsburgh, Wichita State and Iowa all served as regional hosts for the event, with those four advancing to the Championship Rounds, to be played Nov. 23-24 at Sprint Center in Kansas City.

Western Carolina is among two sub-regional hosts, joining OVC-member, Eastern Kentucky.

Every game of the 2009 O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic Cullowhee sub-regional will be available through the Internet via Stretch Internet at as Gary Ayers, the "Voice of the Catamounts" will provide play-by-play action for each game. WCU's games will also be available on the radio locally on WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 in Cullowhee; 680 AM WRGC in Sylva and 920 AM WPTL in Canton.

Fans can also follow every game through live GameTracker, presented by Carolina West Sports Medicine.

Three teams will come to Cullowhee to compete for three days: Arkansas-Monticello, which played in the Wichita regional; Binghamton, which played in the Pittsburgh regional; and Duquesne, which competed in the Iowa City regional, upsetting Big Ten-member and host, Iowa.

Western Carolina (1-1) fell in its opening-round game at No. 3 Texas, 73-41, in Austin back on Wednesday night. Elsewhere, Binghamton fell at Pittsburgh, 71-46, back on Nov. 17, while Arkansas-Monticello lost 79-50 at Wichita State.

The CBE Classic tournament was initially established in 2001 as the Guardians Classic, in partnership with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The event is now named after the College Basketball Experience (CBE), an interactive facility for college basketball fans that is part of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.



Tickets for the event are on-sale through the WCU Ticket Office by calling (800) 34-GOWCU or online by visiting Single-day tickets are good for both games of the daily session for $10 reserved and $7 general admission, with all youth tickets $5. There is also a tournament pass for just $15 which will include general admission tickets for all six games.

The tournament is also part of "Love the Locals" promotion, in partnership with the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce.
