We all reported to campus early to help with the campus move-in. This was a great opportunity for us to interact with new students on campus and also reunite with those we haven't seen since last spring. Even Coach [Larry] Hunter and the rest of the coaching staff broke a sweat by lending a hand during the move-in day.
After the first official day of classes, the Catamount basketball program was back to work. For the first time in my basketball career, and I'm sure it was a first for my teammates as well, practice started in August. Each player has taken advantage of this opportunity to get better prepared for the upcoming season. Everyone has been working hard and the mindset of the team as a whole is clearly about competing and winning.
Our new recruiting class has shown great maturity and seems to be taking on this new challenge very well. Each new player brings a tremendous amount of toughness to our team and they also added some well needed size that we were looking for. Besides their on the court accomplishments, all of their personalities are a perfect fit for the direction that the program is moving in.
All of the returning players, my self included, are eager to get back into the swing of things and continue to build from the steps that we took last year. The goal of the team this year is to "not make excuses and always come to work."
Our bodies took a beating the first two days of practice, but no one complained about the hard work because we now understand that there is a price to pay if we want to meet the expectations and goals that we've set for the season. We also have to have preparation for our upcoming journey to Costa Rica. Even though this is a great opportunity to see a new land, we are anticipating playing against great competition and want to return home with positive results. We would like to thank everyone who has sponsored the Catamount program and those who have given us a chance for this remarkable opportunity. GO CATS!!!
