Cullowhee, N.C. -
Catamount head men's basketball coach Steve Shurina announced today that Jamar Jenkins has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Western Carolina University. Jenkins is a 6-6, 225-pound forward from Chapel Hill, Tenn., and Forrest High School.
Jenkins averaged 18.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.9 blocks for Forrest HS this past season. For his effort, he was named his district's Most Valuable Player for both the regular season and tournament. Jenkins was additionally tabbed honorable mention All-State, as well as all-region. As a junior, he also averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds. For his career, Jenkins scored over 1,700 points, a Forrest High record, and pulled down over 1,000 rebounds.
"Jamar is a versitile player who will fit right into our program here at Western Carolina," Shurina said. "He can play on the perimeter and has the size to play inside as well. He has tremendous up-side and will only get better over his career. We could not be happier that Jamar has chosen to be a part of this family."
Jenkins joins Montreal, Quebec native Negus McKenna, who signed with the Catamounts this past spring, as part of Western's 2004-05 freshman class.
