Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina's senior guard Trey Sumler was named to the Southern Conference All-Conference Team by the coaches and first team by media as announced the league's office Tuesday.

The Rocky Mount, N.C. native averaged a team-high 17.9 points per game - fifth best mark in the SoCon -- and league leading 4.4 assists per game. Sumler shot 43.1 percent from the field, 38.6 percent from behind the arc and 79.4 percent from the free throw line en route to 520 total points. He has also averaged a league-high 35.6 minutes per game. He led the team in scoring 15 times and was the team leader in assists 23 times. He tallied double-digits in 26 of the 29 games he appeared in, including 11 games with more than 20 points.

In his season debut against then No. 18 ranked Oregon on November 13, Sumler dropped 29 on the ducks on 10-of-15 shooting for 66.7 percent from the field. He also had five assists in the matchup. He followed with 20 points against Virginia Tech two days later for back-to-back 20 point games - a feat he accomplished three different times during the season.

Against Niagara on November22, Sumler scored 35 points on 10-of-10 shooting including a 14-of-16 performance from the free throw line. He also dished out 10 assists for the first double-double of the season by the Catamounts. He was one of only five players to have 10 or more assists in a game in the SoCon during the 2013-14 season.

Following a 21-point performance at Georgia on December 21, Sumler tallied a career-high 40 points against Milligan on December 30 becoming one of only three players in the league and 19 players in the NCAA to reach the 40-point plateau in a game.

Sumler, a two-time all league selection, is ranked in the top 10 in 16 different individual statistical categories and in the top five of 12 of those categories including third with 1,959 career points.

The league's coaches and media has recognized Sumler for a post-season award a total of three times earning Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and all-freshman team honors in 2010-11. He picked up all-conference honors in 2012-13 as he becomes one of 12 Catamounts to earn all-conference accolades in multiple years. Prior to Sumler's awards Tuesday, nine different Catamounts had been named to the all-conference team by either the league's coaches or media, while two players were recognized three times - current NBA player Kevin Martin in 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-04 and Brandon Giles in 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Sumler leads the No. 5 seed Catamounts in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament on Saturday, March 8 at 2:30 p.m. against No. 4 seed Elon.
