UNCG (7-23) held Davidson to 24-percent shooting including 16-percent (6-of-37) from the floor in the first have during its first round win.
Western Carolina (17-14) swept the regular season meeting against its divisional foe, winning twice inside the final month of the regular season. WCU won in Cullowhee, 83-73, back on Feb. 5 as five players scored in double figures led by 19 from SoCon Freshman of the Year, Trey Sumler, and a double-double by Harouna Mutombo.
Most recently, the Catamounts held on for a 70-66 win over the Spartans in Greensboro as All-SoCon senior Mike Williams and the league's Defensive Player of the Year combined for four made free throws in the closing seconds.
All told, the Catamounts have won six-straight over UNCG dating back to the 2009 season.
WCU and UNCG have met in the SoCon tournament three times prior with the Spartans winning all three. The last meeting came in the first round of the 2006 tournament in North Charleston, S.C., a 69-65 victory for UNCG.
Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
