Western Carolina freshman Nick Aldridge was today named to the All-Southern Conference first team as voted by the SoCon Sports Media Association (SCSMA). Aldridge was one of two rookies named to the honorary squad's first team and was one of 15 student-athletes from eight different schools were represented.
Earlier in championship week, Aldridge was named to the all-conference team as selected by the head coaches. He is the 19th different Catamount to earn the yearly recognition.
Aldridge ranked third in the conference in scoring this season with 548 points, averaging a WCU-leading 18.3 points per contest. Additionally, the South Webster, Ohio, native was fifth in the league in rebounding with seven boards per game. The versitle forward also averaged 1.7 assists and steals during the year.
This season, he scored in double-figures in 27 of his 30 games played, recording double digits in 20-consecutive games. During that streak, Aldridge scored 20-points or more nine times, posting a career-best 39 at the College of Charleston back on Feb. 5.
