The annual Southern Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Championships commence on Thursday at the McAlister Field House on the campus of The Citadel and at the North Charleston Coliseum. Western's men battle No. 10 seed UNC Greensboro at approximately 6:00 pm on Thursday while the Lady Catamounts, who earned a first round bye with the fifth-place finish during the regular season, open tournament play on Friday morning at 11:00 am.
The Catamount Sports Network will broadcast each game involving Western during the tournament. Steve White and Gary Ayers will have the call during the men's tournament, while Steven Crumpler and Daniel Hooker will handle the women's broadcast. Both WCU teams' tournament games can be heard locally in Cullowhee on WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 or online via streaming audio on the station's web site, www.WWCUFM.com. The Catamount men can also be heard in Sylva on 680 AM WRGC (www.WRGC.com), while the women's games will also be carried by 1350 AM WZGM in Asheville (www.FXSports1350.com).
Thursday's first round game between the Catamounts and Spartans is set to tip around 6:00 pm, with the pre-game show starting around 5:45 pm. The Lady Catamounts quarterfinal match-up with rival Appalachian State will tip at 11:00 am, with a 10:45 am air time.

Also, three of the four days will be carried on SIRIUS Satellite Radio between Channel 126 and 117. Opening round games on Thursday will be carried on Channel 126, with no games carried on Friday. Saturday's semifinals will again be broadcast on Channel 126, with Sunday's championship games carried on Channel 117.

On Thursday, the Western Carolina Catamount Club and Alumni Affairs will hold a special pre-game reception at the Courtyard Riverview by Marriott from 2:30 pm until 4:00 pm prior to the Catamounts' opening round game with tenth-seeded UNC Greensboro. WCU Chancellor Dr. John Bardo, the Catamount cheerleaders, the WCU Dance Team, and the Cathouse Band will all be in attendance at the social.
