Charleston, S.C. - Western Carolina freshman Nick Aldridge was today named to the 2007 All-Southern Conference Men's Basketball team as selected by the league's head coaches. Aldridge was also named to the SoCon's All-Freshman team where he was joined by classmate Jake Robinson on the five-member honorary squad.

Aldridge ranked third in the conference in scoring this season, averaging a WCU-leading 18 points per contest. Additionally, the South Webster, Ohio, native was fifth in the league in rebounding with 7.1 boards per game. This season, he scored in double-figures in 25 of his 28 games played, entering tournament play having scored in double digits in 18-consecutive games. During his current streak, Aldridge has scored 20-points or more seven times, posting a career-best 39 at the College of Charleston back on Feb. 5.

Aldridge was one of two freshmen named to the 10-member all-conference squad.

Robinson ranked among the conference leaders in 3-point shooting during the regular season shooting 41.6-percent entering tournament play. His percentage is currently seventh in WCU's single-season record book. Scoring in double-figures nine times, the Canton, N.C., native averaged 9.1 points and just under three rebounds per game for the Catamounts during the year. The sharp-shooting forward connected on 62 3-pointers this year, tied for the ninth-best, single-season in school history.

Seeded seventh, Western Carolina opens play in the 2007 SoCon Men's Basketball Championship this evening at approximately 5:30 pm in the second game of the men's first round.
