Catamounts Versus Bulldogs
• The Catamounts and Bulldogs first met during the 1969-70 season. The game counted as a forfeit victory for the Catamounts, 2-0.
• The series would remain dormant till the 2008-09 season when WCU and Samford first met in Southern Conference action. The Catamounts lost that first conference meeting 76-64 in Birmingham.
• WCU leads the all-time series 9-5 including being a perfect 7-0 at home against the Bulldogs.

Home Sweet Home
• Western Carolina is 90-34 inside the Ramsey Center under head coach Larry Hunter.
• The Catamounts went 11-2 at home last season with their only losses coming to Davidson (Jan. 23) and Chattanooga (Feb. 27).
• This season WCU is 6-2 at home with wins over Hiwassee, St. Catharine, The Citadel, Furman, UNCG and Mercer.

Up Next
• The Catamounts host Chattanooga on Saturday in a key Southern Conference match-up. Tip-off is set for 4:30 pm.
• The game will follow WCU's women's game against ETSU.

Thompson Named SoCon Freshman of the Week
• Freshman forward Tucker Thompson was selected today as the Southern Conference's CRONS Freshman of the Week for his performances against VMI and UNCG.
• The weekly honor was the first for Thompson and fourth for the Catamounts this season.
• Thompson is WCU's first Freshman of the Week honoree since the conference began giving out the award last season.
• Thompson averaged 8.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in two starts last week as the Catamounts picked up a pair of road wins over VMI (85-70) and UNCG (78-73). He posted nine points and 11 rebounds Thursday at VMI, including five offensive boards. He chipped in eight points in 24 minutes of action against the Spartans on Saturday. Thompson shot 67 percent from the field and was 9-of-10 from the free throw line last week. He has started each of the last four games for the Catamounts.

Climbing the Career Charts
• Seniors James Sinclair and Kenneth Hall are working their way up the career charts at WCU.
Kenneth Hall needs just two more blocks to tie Richie Gordon (2007-11) for second all-time in career blocks with 120.
James Sinclair recently moved into 33rd on the career scoring chart with 1,123 points. He needs 36 more to move into the top-30 at Western Carolina.
• Sinclair is also working his way up the career steals list. With his one steal against Mercer he moved past his current coach Anquell McCollum for seventh all-time. He now has 154 steals. Current assistant coach Brigham Waginger holds the record with 285.

Catamounts Comeback Bid Falls Short at Samford
The Western Carolina men's basketball team trailed for most of the game Saturday night in Birmingham, Ala., as the Samford Bulldogs took advantage of 20 WCU turnovers and a strong performance at the free throw line to take a 78-72 victory at home. Senior James Sinclair led all scorers with 26 points against the Bulldogs but it was not enough as Samford went 26-28 at the free throw line including 21-22 in the second half to keep the Catamounts at bay.
