Flat Larry Contest Begins Thursday During Men's Basketball Game Against Davidson

Jan. 24, 2013

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Hey fans, every wish you could show off your Catamount men's basketball coach Larry Hunter to all your friends? Or take him to your favorite restaurant for a burger? Well, here is your chance with Western Carolina University's new promotion "Flat Larry."

"Flat Larry" is Western Carolina's take on the "Flat Stanley" project which was started in 1995 by Dale Hubert, a third grade teacher in London, Ontario, Canada. During the project, students create paper "Flat Stanleys" (representative drawings of the Stanley Lambchop character - based on the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown) and keep a journal for a few days, documenting the places and activities in which Flat Stanley is involved.

Western Carolina has adopted its own version of "Flat Stanley" to create "Flat Larry."Fans can participate as individuals or partner up with their friends to take "Flat Larry" on adventures and share your photos with Catamount Athletics. The individual or team with the best photos will win --- and their photos will be featured in a Catamount Sports YouTube video.
