Cullowhee, N.C. - According to representatives at Mission Hospital in Asheville, Western Carolina men's basketball senior Kyle Greathouse was released from care at approximately 8:30 pm after showing vast improvement throughout the afternoon hours.
Greathouse, the lone senior on the Catamount squad, was involved in a serious car accident on Old Highway 107 early Wednesday morning. He was air lifted from C.J. Harris Hospital in Sylva to Mission where he was admitted in the early hours on Wednesday.
"From the moment we found out about the situation, the outpouring of support has been overwhelming," said WCU Athletics Director Chip Smith. "Ranging from the University system; Bob Caruso and his staff in Student Affairs to the Public Relations department, and throughout our Catamount family, there was a lot of support during this difficult time. There were dozens of phone calls from concerned supporters and well-wishers into the department today, and that shows exactly what Kyle means to our program and to our fans."
Around 7:00 pm Wednesday evening, Smith phoned in on "In the Litterbox" on WWCU-FM after speaking with WCU head coach Larry Hunter, who had been at the hospital most of the day with Kyle, to report that Greathouse was improving. Smith also commented that in addition to Greathouse's parents arriving late on Wednesday afternoon, his Catamount teammates and coaches also made a trip to visit him in the hospital. It was soon after the call that Greathouse was reportedly discharged.
More information will be provided as soon as it is made available.
