Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina University and the Ramsey Center are the place to be on Monday (Jan. 22) for great basketball action and hoop-loads of fun. First, the Lady Catamounts host the College of Charleston for the annual Education Day game with tip-off slated at Noon. Then, at 7:00 pm on Monday night, the Catamount men's squad will host Elon for Beach Night 6.
For the women's game, fifth and sixth graders area schools will be treated to a day of educational sessions starting at 9:30 am, followed by a pizza lunch provided by Papa's Pizza To Go of Cullowhee. At Noon, they will help cheer the Lady Catamounts to victory in a key Southern Conference cat fight with the Cougars from Charleston.
The WCU Athletics Department will also offer its "Lunch and a Game" promotion. For just $5.00, fans can get a ticket to the game as well as a voucher which is good for one FREE hot dog, FREE drink, and a FREE bag of chips, courtesy of Aramark.
Western Carolina leads the all-time series with the College of Charleston, 17-10 and the Lady Cats have won four-straight - and seven of the last eight - meetings in Cullowhee. Western won by 33 in Cullowhee last season marking the most points scored (98) and largest margin of victory (33) in the Kellie Harper era.
WCU will also be chasing the 500th victory in program's 42-year history on Monday.
Lady Catamounts vs. College of Charleston - Game Notes
At 7:00 pm, the Catamount men under the guidance of head coach Larry Hunter will take to the hardwood against Elon in a cruical North Division match-up. It is also the sixth-annual Beach Night celebration with all fans encouraged to break out the beach wear for a night of indoor fun. Among the festivities will be great Carolina beach music, the "Pasty Legs Contest" for free tanning sessions courtesy of the Catamount Travel Center, and spring break travel accommodations from the Comfort Suites of Charleston, S.C.
In addition to Monday night's broadcast of the Catamount Sports Network going out to Western North Carolina on the Flagship Station of WCU Athletics, Power 90dot5 and to the world on WWCUFM.com, fans can catch the action on Sirius Satellite Radio. As a part of the SoCon's deal with Sirius, fans can tune into Channel 121 to hear the broadcast.
Catamounts vs. Elon - Game Notes
WCU enters Monday being led by freshman Nick Aldridge (15.7 ppg, 6.9 rpg), who took over the team lead in scoring from junior Antonio Russell (14.7 ppg) after dropping a career-high 31 points on ASU a week ago and scoring 18 at Furman on Saturday. Freshman Jake Robinson is shooting 51.3-percent from beyond the 3-point arc this season which leads the SoCon.
