ELON, N.C. (AP) - Chris Long scored 17 points and Elon controlled the second half to beat Western Carolina 59-49 on Tuesday night.
Monty Sanders added 15 points for the Phoenix (3-3, 1-0 Southern Conference), who erased a 26-18 halftime deficit by shooting 57 percent while hitting 13 of 18 free throws after the break.
Brandon Giles scored 14 points to lead the Catamounts (2-4, 0-1), who shot 8-for-27 (30 percent) in the second half.
Western Carolina led by as many as 11 points before taking a 26-18 halftime lead, thanks mainly to holding Elon to 7-for-22 shooting. But Elon's offense got rolling in the second half, shooting 13-for-23 to push ahead and lead by as many as 13 in the final minutes.
