NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Greg Gray scored 22 points Sunday to help South Carolina State beat Western Carolina University 61-58 in the America's Youth Classic.

Cory Largent of Western Carolina (0-3) hit a 3-pointer with 1:23 left in the game to tie the score at 54-54. But Gray hit two free throws seconds later to put South Carolina State (1-2) on top for good.

Vincent Whitt and Gray each made free throws down the stretch to maintain the lead.

Whitt finished with 20 points for South Carolina State. Willie Freeman lead Western Carolina with 15 points, Casey Rogers added 13 points and eight assists, and Ran Brempong finished with 11.
