Catamounts Falter Against UNC Greensboro

March 3, 2008

Final Stats

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Senior Kyle Hines scored 11 of his 17 points in the second half as UNC Greensboro recovered from poor shooting in the first half and took a 60-55 victory over Western Carolina for its fourth-straight win on Monday.

Managing just a 5-for-19 effort in the opening 20 minutes, the Spartans (18-11, 12-8 Southern Conference) trailed 10-1 in the first 7 1/2 minutes after missing their first six shots. After cutting the gap to 14-13, the Catamounts (10-20, 6-14) went on a 7-0 run and took a 25-21 halftime lead.

UNCG took command by hitting nine of its first 10 shots in the second half. The last basket in the run was part of a three-point play by Hines which gave the Spartans a 44-33 lead with 9:52 to go. Western Carolina, which shot 44 percent in both halves, got no closer than the final deficit.

Hines scored in double figures for the 79th straight game. Kevin Oleksiak added 14 for the Spartans, who have won five of their last six.

Jake Robinson had a game-high 19 for the Catamounts. Arnold Gore scored 12 and Richie Gordon had 11 for Western Carolina, tying his career-high.
