ELON, N.C. (AP) - Elon's Ola Atoyebi scored 14 points and the Phoenix rallied for a 72-66 win over Western Carolina on Thursday night at Alumni Gym. The Phoenix erased a double-digit second half lead to snap Western's two-game winning streak in the overall series.

Western Carolina (13-13, 8-8 Southern Conference) led 57-49 with 7:42 to play and Elon went on a 14-3 run for a 63-60 lead with 2:47 left on a 3-pointer by Chris Long. Atoyebi scord six points during the drive.

The Catamounts reclaimed the lead briefly, 66-65, on a Harouna Mutombo jump shot with 1:29 to go. However, Elon (9-10, 6-11) then took the lead for good as Atoyebi gave the Phoenix a 67-66 advantage with 24 seconds to play.

The loss -- Western's seventh-straight on the road -- dropped the Catamounts two games behind SoCon North Division leader, Chattanooga (10-6), with an 8-8 league mark. Samford, which was idle on Thursday, is third at 8-9, followed by Appalachian State at 8-10 following a last second win over sixth-place UNC Greensboro (3-14).

Mutombo led two Catamounts in double figures with his second career double-double, scoring 20 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. It is the third-straight, 20-point game for the Pickering, Ontario, native. He also added a team-best four assists. Freshman Keaton Cole added 10 points in his second-consecutive start.

Sophomore Richie Gordon added nine points and six rebounds, while junior post Adrian Gailliard scored eight before fouling out in the second half. Junior Brigham Waginger chipped in seven points, six boards, three assists and two steals in the loss.

Devan Carter scored 12 points and T.J. Douglas chipped in 11 for the Phoenix, including three 3-pointers.
