2008-09: Started the season as a walk-on practice player as the Catamount roster was full at an NCAA-regulated 15 players ... However, just after the fall final exams, a roster spot opened up after transfer Joey Parker left the team, allowing Tonkins to move onto the active roster ... Saw his first career action against Tennessee Wesleyan, entering the game during the final six minutes ... Finished 0-for-3 from the floor, including missing two 3-pointer attempts in his first career game ... Tallied his first career points late in the going at Davidson, draining a 3-pointer from the top of the key for his first career field goal and first 3-pointer ... Played in his hometown at UNC Greensboro against the Spartans.

Prior to Western: Was named to the first team All-Metro 4A Conference as a senior after averaging 13 points per game as a team captain to rank third on his team, while also garnering honorable mention All-Area in the Triad region ... Also averaged seven boards per contest ... Helped lead Grimsley HS and head coach Darren Corbett to the third round of the state playoffs in North Carolina 4A ... Grimsley held a state ranking of 9th during the duration of Christian's senior year ... Scored a game-high 23 points against Eastern Guilford as a junior ... Also received Player of the Game honors for scoring the game-winning basket over a heated rival, Northwest Guilford HS ... Also scored a game high 20 points against rival, Page HS, to clinch the conference title ... During his senior year, helped lead Grimsley over every team in their conference twice, which is a monumental feat in the tough 4A Metro Conference ... Saw his first varsity action as a freshman in the first round of the state playoffs and played varsity the remainder of his prep career ... Played AAU with the Cobras coached by Coach Elliot Brooks.

Personal: Is the son of Rex and Vickie Tonkins ... His father, Rex, attended Western Carolina on a football scholarship in 1984 ... Christian was born in Hickory, N.C., and lived in Greensboro, N.C., until age 6 and moved Colorado Springs, Colo., until his was 14 and returned back to Greensboro to attend his dad's alma mater, Grimsley HS ... Christian has one sibling, a sister, Victoria.
