Jake Carstensen joined the Catamount Basketball coaching staff in the summer of 2007 as a graduate assistant for the men's team. His duties include assisting with the daily operations of the team, including recruiting, filming and scouting the opposition, and player development.

A native of Almira, Washington, Carstensen comes to Western after one season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. He was a two-time letter winner at Pacific Lutheran, captaining the squad his senior year.

Prior to joining the PLU program, he played guard on the Peninsula Community College basketball team from 2002-04. During his last year, he led the Pirates to a 24-7 record and a third-place finish in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC).

Jake is married to Scarlet Carstensen, who is a teacher at nearby Fairview Elementary in Sylva. In addition to his coaching duties, he is pursuing a Masters of Science in Sport Management at WCU.
