Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina baseball team signed Brian Barnes and Brandon McDowell for the 2002 baseball season.
Barnes, a 5-11 pitcher, is from Fredericksburg, Va. where he plays for Chancellor High School. The left-handed pitcher and can also play outfield, he will have a definite impact on the program. Barnes was also recruited by Miami, East Carolina and Alabama.
McDowell, a 6-2 pitcher, plays for Franklin High School. The Franklin, N.C. native was named 3A conference Player-of-the-Year. McDowell also plays first base for Franklin.
