Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina concludes its fall drills for 2012 with its annual Purple & Gold Fall College World Series this week on-campus at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium.
The three-game intrasquad series is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 5:00 pm, with game two slated for Friday afternoon at 4:15 pm. Game three - and the final practice session for the Catamounts this fall - is Saturday morning with a 10:00 am first pitch ahead of football's rivalry game against #15 Appalachian State.
The two teams for the scrimmage finale will be drafted and managed by volunteer assistant coach Brandon Johnson and undergraduate assistant Kyle Deese - both former right-handed pitchers for the Catamount baseball team. The draft will take place on Tuesday with game one starters announced following the draft. The teams will wear two variations of camouflage tops during the series - the woodsy "RealTree" camo look from last year and a new, desert-style digital camo the team has unveiled for this season.
The intrasquad scrimmages cap WCU's NCAA-allotted 27 off-season practices.
