Cullowhee, N.C. - The defending Southern Conference regular season champion Western Carolina Catamount baseball team added 10 new players to its roster with the start of fall classes. Seven of the 10 newcomers are from North Carolina with one apiece from Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio.
All told, the Catamounts added seven players as pitchers with three listed as position players including a pair of infielders and a catcher.
Coming off a 39-20 season a year ago - and returning four players that were honored in the post-season by the SoCon - the WCU coaches will have individual instruction sessions with the squad through the fall, and is slated to open its fall practice in mid-September with plans to conclude the fall prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Catamount roster features eight seniors and seven juniors including a potential preseason player of the year in senior Aaron Attaway and preseason pitcher of the year in Jeremy Null. WCU returns 44 of its 71 home runs from a season ago with 23 of its 39 victories and 325 of 490 strikeouts returning on the mound.
