Cullowhee, N.C. - A combined 20 members of the Western Carolina baseball team are playing in the various summer leagues around the nation including 12 that are teammates between five squads in the wooden bat Coastal Plain, Valley, Southern Collegiate and Prospect Leagues and one playing in the prestigious Cape Cod League. All told, the 20 student-athletes are spread between eight summer leagues ranging from southeastern United States to New England and the Midwest.

Catamount teammates Cody Jones, Tyler White, and right-handed pitcher Tyler Powell are teamed together with the Gastonia Grizzlies of the Coastal Plain League (CPL), while WCU's Dykota Spiess and Bryce Danielson will play together this summer with the Forest City Owls in the same wooden bat league. In the Valley League, Julian Ridings, Jacob Hoyle and left-hander Adam Curtis are playing together with the Waynesboro Generals in Virginia.

Bradley Strong and Bryant Noteboom are playing together this summer with the West Virginia Miners of the Prospect League. Both Luke Gragg and William Frazier round out the WCU teammates playing together this summer, teaming with the Lake Norman Copperheads in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League.

Connor Andrus is playing for the Rockbridge Rapids and could square off against his Catamount teammates in the Valley League, while both Dale Urquhart Jr., (Fayetteville SwampDogs) and Aaron Attaway (Thomasville HiToms) will take their talents to the CPL. Two Catamounts are playing in the Northwoods League as Adam Martin is wearing the colors of the St. Cloud (Minn.) Rox and Austin Neary, who missed most of the 2012 season due to injury, playing with the Wisconsin Rapid Rafters.

Other WCU players playing in various leagues include sophomore pitcher Jordan Smith who takes his talents to the Cape Cod League this summer, playing for the Cotuit Kettleers. Left-handed reliever Hunter Brister is pitching for the Tennessee Big Train in the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League, while right-handed freshman Danny Schneider will play for the 6-4-3 DP in the Sunbelt League in Georgia this summer.
