Updated June 5, 2017

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina has a total of 19 baseball players joining 13 different teams across seven different leagues as play in the various summer wooden bat leagues commences. Six of the 19 are slated to be in action with southeastern-based leagues during the summer months with a pair of juniors inked to the prestigious Cape Cod League, which opens in mid-June.

Infielder Brett Pope and left-handed pitcher Brendan Nail are scheduled to play for the defending Cape Cod League champion Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. Last summer, former Catamount left-handers Bryan Sammons and Dillon Bray both played for Y-D during its championship run a summer ago.

A total of eight Catamounts will lace-up their cleats this summer in the Northwoods League, which consists of 20 teams spread between two divisions with locations in Wisconsin (9), Minnesota (5), Michigan (2), Iowa (1), Illinois (1), North Dakota (1), and one north of the border in Canada. Three Catamounts -- Andrew Bullock, Tristan Baker, and Taylor Purus -- are slated to be teammates with the Fond du Lac (Wis.) Dock Spiders, while RHP Jake Moebius will pitch for the Eau Clair (Wis.) Express. Infielder Caleb Robinson carries his talents to the Duluth (Minn.) Huskies, with infielder Cameron Blaquiere and catcher Spencer Holcomb teaming for the St. Cloud (Minn.) Rox, and Matthew Koehler patrolling the outfield for the Kalamazoo (Mich.) Growlers.

A trio of WCU players are ear-marked for the Coastal Plain League, a 15-team league which is based solely in North and South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. Two players -- right-handed pitcher Michael Davis and catcher Chase Barbary -- will team with the Forest City Owls, while Jacob Breakfield is slated to pitch for the Gastonia Grizzlies.

Twin brothers Luke and Andrew Robinson will team this summer in the Valley League in Virginia with the Waynesboro (Va.) Generals. WCU will also have a pair of players in the Great Lakes League as redshirt freshman catcher Justin Sparks is with the Lake Erie Monarchs in Flat Rock, Mich., while true freshman Ryan Mitschele -- who took a red-shirt last season -- joins Sparks in Michigan with the Irish Hills Leprechauns in Adrian, Mich.

Rounding out WCU's summer league participants is catcher Kitt Capell, who will play for the Piedmont Pride out of Rock Hill, S.C., while right-hander Jake Niezen has returned to his hometown of San Luis Obispo, Calif., to again suit up for the hometown SLO Blues in the California Collegiate League. True freshman infielder Bo Fricks has joined the Pioneer Collegiate Baseball League-member, Bancroft Bandits in Bancroft, Iowa.

Junior catcher Spencer Holcomb has yet to announce his summer plans, though will update when information is made available. Also, RHP Dylan Biumi is slated to take the summer off, while LHP Corey Sikes is doing a velocity program for the summer.
