Charleston, S.C. -
Due to rain on Thursday, the schedule for the 2003 Southern Conference Championship, held at Riley Park, has been pushed back nearly a full day. As a result, Western Carolina will face Georgia Southern in the winners bracket semifinal on Saturday at Noon. (The teams were originally set to play Friday night at 7:30 pm.) The Catamounts got to this point by beating Davidson on Wednesday, 14-0, and Furman in the second round, 6-0. The WCU-Furman game started at 4:45 pm on Thurday and was suspended until 11 am Friday.
If WCU was to defeat Georgia Southern Saturday afternoon, the Cats will play for the SoCon Championship on Sunday at a time to be determined. The rest of Friday's schedule will see Furman and VMI play at approximately 4 pm and the College of Charleston face UNC Greensboro at approximately 7:30 pm.
The WCU Department of Athletics also announced that WWCU (90.5 FM) will broadcast all future Catamount games in the SoCon Championship. Due to its committment to racing on Sunday, WRGC will only be able to carry Western's game (or games) on Saturday.
