Catamount Diamond Notes:
- Western Carolina went 1-2 last weekend with a trio of one-run ball games against Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. ... the Catamounts rallied from down four to win Friday's opener, 5-4, before falling on Saturday on a ninth-inning, walk-off home run ... GSU took the series finale, 3-2, on Sunday despite two home runs by the Catamounts - the first career round-tripper by Danny Bermudez and a ninth inning homer by Adam Martin;

- Despite entering the weekend as two of the offensive juggernauts, neither team was able to muster much punch at the plate last weekend ... WCU was held to just a .181 team batting average (17-for-94) while the Eagles batted .209 (18-for-86) ... the Catamounts had more home runs than the Eagles, hitting three round-trippers including two by Martin and one by Bermudez ... GSU had five extra base hits (two doubles, a triple and two homers) while WCU had four - a double by Hoyle and the three home runs ... In Sunday's game, GSU scored its three runs on an infield fielder's choice and a pair of wild pitches;

- GSU's pitching staff posted a 1.00 ERA, allowing just seven runs, three earned with 22 strikeouts ... Combined, WCU's hurlers allowed eight earned runs on the weekend with 16 strikeouts ... WCU was held to a season-low matching four hits on Sunday - the other instance came against No. 20 Clemson back on April 23 ... GSU had six hits in each game;

- By dropping 2-of-3 at GSU over the weekend, the Catamounts slip into second-place in the Southern Conference standings entering the final week of the regular season ... WCU is 17-6 on the year (.739) while Davidson, which was idle last weekend, holds an edge with a 17-5 league mark (.773) ... Davidson lost two games to weather against UNCG while the Catamounts lost one contest to rain vs. The Citadel, hence the uneven number of games;

- The winner of the best-of-three SoCon series this weekend between WCU and Davidson will claim the conference regular season championship ... Winning percentage will be the determinant as games played will be uneven;

- Bradley Strong led WCU with a .308 batting average last week, collecting a team-best four hits - all singles - in 13 plate appearances ... Danny Bermudez and Matt Smith both finished with .333 averages, going 1-for-3 with Bermudez hitting his first a career homer ... Bradley Strong carries a team-best, eight-game hitting streak into the final week of the regular season;

- Senior Jordan Smith tossed eight solid innings, striking out five in the 1-0 loss on Saturday ... Classmate T.J. Fussell struck out four in two appearances on the weekend, claiming the lone victory for WCU after a solid outing Friday night, holding GSU without a base hit in 4.2 innings of work;

- Including a 1-2 record last weekend, Western Carolina holds an 11-4 record in games decided by one-run this season ... the Catamounts are 3-2 in extra inning games this spring;

- WCU's series loss at Georgia Southern is just the second conference series it has failed to win this year, snapping what was a three-series win streak for the Catamounts ... WCU also saw its seasonal seven-game win streak snapped on Saturday ... the Catamounts have claimed at least two wins in the trio of weekend against league foes in 13 of the last 15 conference series dating back to last season;

- With the one win last week, WCU seventh-year head coach Bobby Moranda has 228 career victories to rank fourth all-time in program history, just one victory behind third-place Keith LeClair, who won 229 games in six seasons in Cullowhee (229-135-2) ... With 117 career Southern Conference wins, Moranda ranks second in WCU history behind Todd Raleigh who won 132 SoCon games at the head of the Catamount program;

- Tyler Powell has a career-high 10 saves this season to move him into a tie for third place in the school's single-season record book, matching Preston Hatcher's 2012 season and Greg Holland's 2007 performance ... Powell is four saves shy of the single-season record of 14 held by both Hatcher and Mike Manning from 1994.

Catamount Career Charts Watch:
- Adding to his career-record with his 57th career start, senior Jordan Smith moved into a tie for first-place in program history with 363.0 career innings pitched ...
