Cullowhee, N.C. - The Southern Conference today named Western Carolina's Greg Holland as the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of May 10. He joins classmate Steven Strausbaugh (Feb. 22) as the only Catamounts to earn the weekly award from the conference this season. It is also the seventh SoCon honor for a Catamount baseball player this season.

Holland, a right-handed pitcher for the Catamounts, appeared in two games last week for the Catamounts, going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. In total last week, Holland fanned four batters and surrendered just three hits. For his work on the mound, he was dubbed the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday by the league office.

In 3.2 innings of work, Holland struck out four batters and gave up three hits. Holland pitched the final 2.1 innings and fanned three in Friday's game with the UNC Greensboro Spartans to pick up his seventh save of the season. He then got out of a jam in each of the final two innings to register the victory and conclude the week 3-2 overall on the campaign with seven saves and a 1.62 ERA.

The Marion, NC, native is a sophomore natural resource management major who possesses a 3.458 cumulative GPA.

Western Carolina is scheduled to play Tennessee in Knoxville tonight (Wednesday) at 7:00 pm. Barring any weather-related changes, fans can follow all of the action live on Game Tracker, presented by Carolina West Sports Medicine and WestCare.
