Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina senior left-hander Tyler Sexton was today named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District III baseball team as voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The selection is the second of Sexton's career as he was named to the honorary first team a year ago. He was one of 11 student-athletes from the Southern Conference recognized, including two on the first-team, three on the second-team and six on the third-team.

To be nominated for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution. In the cases of transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates, the athlete must have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to be eligible.

Moved to the WCU bullpen earlier this season, Sexton has posted a pair of wins and four saves for the Catamounts with 21 appearances and six starts. He has recorded 47 strikeouts in 59.1 innings pitched this year.

Last week, Sexton, who boasts a 3.98 grade point average while majoring in Sport Management, was named the WCU Male Scholar Athlete of the Year at the annual awards banquet. The High Point, N.C., native was also a candidate for this year's Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.

Western Carolina (24-24, 10-11 SoCon) returns to the diamond Friday night in the first of a three-game conference series at Riley Park against The Citadel. WCU swept the Bulldogs for the first-time since 1994 last season by winning three-straight in Cullowhee.

All three games will be broadcast by the Catamount Sports Network and can be heard locally on WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 in Cullowhee or online at www.WWCUFM.com.
