Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina senior left fielder Alan Beck was named Southern Conference Player of the Week, it was announced today. The Hudson, N.C., native led the 26th-ranked Catamounts to a 5-0 record this past week, batting .429 (9-for-21) with three home runs, 13 RBI (2.6 per game), eight runs scored, five walks, a double and a stolen base.

At Oklahoma State, he gave the Cats a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the first game to set the stage for the wins. Later in the game, Beck hit a monster homer, which cleared the net behind the left field fence, cleared the OSU softball press box and landed in the softball stadium. The senior was 5-for-10 in the two games versus the Cowboys, who were ranked 26th at the time, with six RBI, five runs scored and a stolen base. His solid play continued at Wofford, going 4-for-11 (.364) in the three-game series. In game one, he was 3-for-4 with six RBI. He had a three-run double and an RBI single as part of a 10-run third inning. He capped the scoring in the ninth with a two-run home run, falling a triple short of the cycle in the contest.

Beck leads the SoCon with 16 home runs, 62 RBI and 57 runs scored. With his impressive week, Beck now possesses a .351 career batting average (270-for-770) with 205 runs scored, 57 doubles, 43 home runs, 213 RBI and 464 total bases. He ranks fourth on the WCU and fifth on the SoCon career runs scored lists. He is fourth on the WCU and ninth on the SoCon career doubles lists. He is sixth on the WCU and ninth on the SoCon career home run lists. He is third on the WCU and fifth on the SoCon career RBI lists. He is fifth on the WCU and 10th on the SoCon career hits lists. He is additionally fifth on the SoCon career total bases list and only four walks shy of entering the league's all-time top 10 for base on balls, currently with 119.

This is the second time Beck has been tabbed SoCon Player of the Week this season and the third time in his career. On April 7, Beck and teammate Todd Buchanan were named Co-Players of the Week after each batted an identical .438 (7-for-16) and drove in eight runs a piece. Beck additionally earned the honor as a sophomore. This marks the fifth time a Catamount has been selected this season. Joining Beck and Buchanan as honorees are Ryan Basner (Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 17) and Rod Goldston (Player of the Week on April 12).
