Baseball vs. Georgia Southern Amidst Weather Delay

April 24, 2010

Statesboro, Ga. - Western Carolina and Georgia Southern are currently amidst a weather-delay at J.I. Clements Stadium as the two squads attempt to play game two of the best-of-three Southern Conference series.

UPDATE (as of 4:25 pm): The estimated start time for game two is now being projected for 6:00 pm. It was originally hoped to get it going at 5 pm, but a stray band of rain will force it back another hour.

The Catamount Sports Network is providing live coverage of the game online through Stretch Internet at Updates on the status of the game are also being periodically provided on the broadcast.

Rain showers peppered the region overnight and through the mid-morning hours on Saturday, but moved out of the area around 1:00 pm. Officials at GSU pulled the tarp off the surface at Jack Stallings Field just after 1 pm. However, the threat of incoming inclement weather prompted officials to hold off the first pitch at the regularly scheduled 2:30 pm start time because of not wanting to halt the game once it was started and potentially losing the starting pitchers.

The field tarp was replaced over the diamond at 3:00 pm in anticipation of heavy rain showers which indeed began to fall just moments later.

Junior RHP Matt Benedict (5-0, 2.72 ERA) is scheduled to get the start for Western Carolina which has dropped three-straight including the series opener to GSU, 11-4, on Friday night.
