Western Carolina Baseball Game Notes - at No. 4 Georgia Tech
Atlanta, Ga. -
Western Carolina opens the front-end of a midweek, home-and-home non-conference series with Georgia Tech on Tuesday night as the Catamounts travel to Russ Chandler Stadium at 6:00 pm.
Tuesday's game will be broadcast on the Catamount Sports Network and can be heard locally on WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 in Cullowhee or online at www.WWCUFM.com. Air time is 5:45 pm with a 6:00 pm first pitch.
Western Carolina (22-15) has won two-straight after taking two from Southern Conference newcomer, Samford, in Cullowhee in a Saturday double-header. The Yellow Jackets, which are ranked anywhere from fourth to 11th in the myriad of college baseball polls, have won five-straight including sweeping Wake Forest in Winston-Salem over the weekend. Georgia Tech is the top-ranked team in terms of RPI according to both BoydsWorld.com and WarrenNolan.com.

WESTERN CAROLINA VS. GEORGIA TECH - THE SERIES:
Western Carolina trails Georgia Tech in the overall series, 15-17 - all in Atlanta ... The Catamounts dropped a 4-1 decision in Atlanta a year ago, last upending the then 14th-ranked Jackets, 10-7, back in 2007 ... WCU also has a win over Tech when it was number one in the nation, winning 8-5 on the road in 2005.

Western Carolina went 2-3 last week, dropping both mid-week games to 18th-ranked Clemson, 11-1 in Cullowhee and 13-2 at Doug Kingsmore ... the Tigers' sweep ended a string of three-straight seasonal splits between the two school ... WCU matched its season-long losing skid with an extra-inning loss to Samford, allowing the game-tying run on an 0-2, two-out double in the top of the ninth ... the Catamounts rallied to outscore the Bulldogs, 42-to-11, in a Saturday double-header to win the conference series.

Western Carolina head baseball coach Bobby Moranda spent six seasons as the associate head and pitching coach for Georgia Tech ... During his time in Atlanta, the Yellow Jackets finished ranked in the top 10 four times, winning three ACC titles and made two appearances in the College World Series.
MORANDA REACHES COACHING MILESTONE:
WCU's victory in game one of last Saturday's double-header gave second-year head coach Bobby Moranda his 50th win all-time as the head coach in Cullowhee ... WCU finished 29-28 in his first season and stand 20-13 entering tonight's game ... Former WCU head coaches Rodney Hennon (now at Georgia Southern) and Todd Raleigh (now at Tennessee) both scored their 50th wins over NC A&T - Hennon on game 69 in year two, the quickest to 50 wins in school history, and Raleigh in game 118 in year three ... Jack Leggett tallied his 50th victory at WCU on game 79 - second quickest - against Carson-Newman ... Moranda earned his 50th in game 93 ... His first win came in game two last season, an 11-5 home win over Marshall.
