Catamount Diamond Notes:
- Western Carolina went 4-0 last week, defeating mountain-rival, UNC Asheville, on Tuesday before sweeping in-state SoCon foe, UNCG, on the road over the weekend ... WCU won the four games by a combined seven runs with two, one-run games ... the Catamounts won their first extra inning game of the season (1-2) with Saturday's 10-inning victory over the Spartans;

- After sweeping UNCG over the weekend, Western Carolina has now won 10-consecutive Southern Conference series dating back to last season since dropping 2-of-3 at home to the Phoenix in late March, 2013 ... the Catamounts have won 24 of their last 26 regular season league games;

- Western Carolina enters the week riding a season-long, nine-game winning streak and has won 12 of its last 14 games overall;

- With the three victories over the weekend, WCU seventh-year head coach Bobby Moranda has 215 career victories to move into a tie with long-time head coach Bill Haywood who recorded a 215-161-2 record in Cullowhee ... Moranda and Haywood are tied for fourth on WCU's all-time head coach victories ledger ... With 108 career SoCon wins, Moranda ranks second in WCU history behind Todd Raleigh who won 132 SoCon games at the head of the Catamount program;



- Senior Cody Jones led the Catamounts in hitting last week, finishing 7-for-16 (.438) with three extra base hits - all three doubles ... Jacob Hoyle collected six hits including two home runs, posting a .750 slugging percentage ... All told, WCU batted just .259 (35-for-135) on the week with 11 extra base hits - seven doubles, a triple and three homers - over the four-games;

- In the midweek win over UNC Asheville, freshman LHP Bryan Sammons tossed a career-long 7.0 innings and struck out a career-best seven to earn his fifth victory of the year ... Sammons tallied 11-straight outs at one stretch against the Bulldogs;

- WCU's pitching staff posted a collective 3.41 ERA on the week ... the Catamount pitchers recorded 27 strikeouts including eight by Jeremy Null, seven by Bryan Sammons, and five by Jordan Smith ... Smith tossed his fourth career complete game in Sunday's 3-1 victory;

- Freshman Dylan Prevatte made his first collegiate start in Sunday's win over UNCG, collecting his first career hit on an infield single to second base in his first plate appearance ... Sophomore J.D. Long made his first career start at shortstop, playing for the injured Aaron Attaway;

- Cody Jones enters the week riding a career-long, 12-game hitting streak, currently the fifth-longest in the Southern Conference ... He is batting .460 (23-for-50) with six extra base hits during his 12-game streak and all told, has hits in 21 of his last 22 games on the season ... Jones has reached base safely in a career-high 21-consecutive games ... Jacob Hoyle is riding a nine-game hitting streak ... Danny Bermudez has reached safely in a career-long, 14-straight games;

- Several Catamounts enter the week ranked among the top 10 in the Southern Conference in several statistical categories: Cody Jones ranks sixth in batting average at .355 and is tied for fifth in base hits (43) including 10 doubles to rank tied for fourth ... Adam Martin leads the SoCon with 41 RBI while Jacob Hoyle is tied for 8th with 29 runs driven in ... Martin is also tied for second with eight home runs, one ahead of Hoyle who is tied for fifth with seven - the two are tied for second with five sacrifice flies apiece ... In addition, Martin is third in the SoCon in slugging percentage (.638) ... Bradley Strong leads the SoCon in triples with five while also ranking second in runs scored (33), tied for third with five sacrifice bunts;

- Entering the week, Jeremy Null leads the Southern Conference in batters struck out with 60 Ks on the year - a mark that includes a league-leading 25 batters struck out looking ... Null's 59.1 innings pitched are most among league hurlers and his 1.52 ERA ranks second in the league, while his .212 opposing batting average against ranks fifth in the SoCon ... Tyler Powell's five saves have him seventh in the league while the two saves for Colton Davis have the sophomore tied for 10th ... Jordan Smith has tossed 53.1 innings this season, fourth in the SoCon.

Catamount Career Charts Watch:
- Western Carolina senior Aaron Attaway was out of the starting lineup in all three games at UNCG over the weekend, snapping his streak of 196-straight games played and started ... Playing in Saturday's win, he now has 197 career games played, the most on the active WCU roster;

- Attaway ranks 16th for hits in a career at WCU, currently sitting with 260 career base hits ... the Morganton, N.C., native by-passed former Catamount Todd Buchanan (258, 2000-03) and is just one behind Rod Goldston (261, 2000-03) for 15th;

- With two sacrifice flies over the weekend, Jacob Hoyle moved into a tie for second place in school history with 15 sac flies, matching J.P. Burwell (1994-97) ... Hoyle is two behind all-time school record holder, Chris Moore (15, 1996-99) ... Attaway (12) is on the same list, tied with former teammate Ross Heffley (12, 2009-12) and Blake Murphy (12, 2004-08) while Adam Martin is tied for 10th with 11 career sac flies;

- Senior starting pitcher Jordan Smith made his 52nd career start on Sunday, moving into second place in school history ... With his next start, he will match the all-time school record of 53 set by Jack Kimel from 1989-92 ... Smith claimed his 22nd career win on Sunday, moving into a tie for seventh place in program history, matching Jerry Reed who won 22 games from 1974-77;

- Smith remains fourth in program history with 323.0 career innings pitched - he is just the fourth different Catamount hurler to eclipse 300 career innings on the mound ... Smith also advanced into sixth on the career strikeouts ledger, currently with 243 career Ks to by-pass former left-handed hurler - and Atlanta Braves draft pick - Chris Masters (241, 2007-09);

- Junior RHP Jeremy Null moved into a tie for ninth in WCU's career record books with 232 career Ks ... Null is tied with former Catamount Brian Bain (232, 199-98) ... Null is just one of 15 different Catamount hurlers to surpass 200 career strikeouts;

- Junior infielder Bradley Strong took sole possession of third-place on WCU's career triples charts with his 12th triple over the weekend at UNCG ... With 12 three-baggers in his career, Strong broke the tie with former Catamount Freddie Hailey who had 11 from 1984-87 ... Strong is just three triples shy of matching all-time record holder Martin Barrow (15, 1995-98);

- Strong additionally moved into a tie for 16th place with 38 career stolen bases, matching Charles Thomas (1998-2000), another former Atlanta Braves draft pick ... Aaron Attaway is just behind Strong in a tie for 18th with 37 thefts in his career.

This Week in Catamount Baseball:
- Western Carolina has five games scheduled this week including Tuesday's home date with Presbyterian (5 pm) before traveling to UNC Asheville (6 pm) for the back-end of the midweek, nonconference home-and-home series at Greenwood Field ... WCU hosts Furman in Cullowhee this weekend in the "Battle for Purple Supremacy" in the Southern Conference - game times are 5 pm Friday, 4 pm Saturday and 1 pm on Sunday;

- This season, the Catamounts are 12-1 at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium this season and are batting a collective .346 overall as a team with 156 hits including 59 for extra bases (35 doubles, six triples and 18 home runs);

- Presbyterian (10-21-1, 3-9 Big South) comes to Cullowhee after dropping three games on the road at Campbell over the weekend ... the Blue Hose have lost 12-straight games on the season since starting the season at 10-9-1 including a three-game home sweep of common foe, UNC Asheville ... Tuesday's game against PC is just the third meeting all-time between the two teams - and the first since 1993 .. WCU leads the series, 2-0;

- Western Carolina visits UNC Asheville (10-22, 4-8 Big South) on Wednesday night at Greenwood Field - the first on-campus meeting between the two since 2004 - a 12-5 Bulldog victory ... UNCA, under the leadership of head coach Tom Smith who is a 1976 graduate of WCU, snapped a four-game losing skid with a home win over Coastal Carolina on Sunday and host Davidson on Tuesday ... the Bulldogs are 5-8 at home this season entering the week ... WCU leads the all-time series with UNCA, 48-26, including the 4-1 victory last Tuesday in Cullowhee ... Wednesday's meeting is the 75th all-time between WCU and UNCA;

- Western Carolina hosts Furman (11-21, 2-7 SoCon) this weekend in Cullowhee ... WCU took 2-of-3 from the Paladins in Greenville last season, and has swept Furman in the past two series at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium in both 2010 and 2012 ... the Paladins face fourth-ranked South Carolina at Fluor Field at the West End in Greenville, S.C., on Tuesday evening in their lone midweek game.
