Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina baseball team, winners of nine straight, will close out its current nine-game home stand with a three-game series with The Citadel this weekend (April 5-7) at Childress Field/Hennon Stadium.

The Citadel currently sits atop the Southern Conference standings with a 10-2 league record, while the Catamounts are only a game out of first place with a 9-3 SoCon mark. The game will pit the league's top offense (Western Carolina) against the league's top pitching team (The Citadel). Western enters the game leading the SoCon in batting average (.359) and home runs (35), while the Bulldogs own a league-best 3.28 ERA and an opponent's batting average of just .231. Also, the series will have this week's SoCon Player of the Week (WCU's Donovan Minero) face this week's SoCon Pitcher of the Week (The Citadel's T.A. Fulmer).

Friday's game starts at 3:00 pm. A win by WCU would put the Cats in a tie for first and be the team's 10th straight win, which would be the school's longest since winning 11 consecutive games in 1998.

Saturday is "Little League Day" at Childress Field as all Little Leaguers between the ages of 5-12 will be admitted free of charge if they are wearing their Little League jersey or hat. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm. Little Leaguers are invited to come early (by 12:45) and run out onto the field with the Catamount starters and stand at your position on the field for the National Anthem. There will be several exciting contests and prizes awarded during the game and a special postgame autograph session with the WCU Baseball team.

For Sunday's game, which is set to start at 1:00 pm, WCU will once again host an "Easter" Egg Hunt following the game after rain forced the hunt to be postponed last Sunday. The event is open to children ages 10 and under.
