Western Carolina Sweeps Wofford, Wins 2013 SoCon Regular Season
Western Carolina swept both ends of a Sunday afternoon doubleheader on Senior Day at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium, blanking Wofford, 3-0, in game one before holding off the Terriers, 10-7, in the night cap to complete the series sweep and wrap-up the 2013 Southern Conference Regular Season Championship.

Catamount Diamond Notes:
- Western Carolina went 2-2 last week, dropping its lone mid-week road game against East Tennessee State to see its program-record, 21-game home winning streak snapped ... WCU then went 2-1 against Elon to win its Southern Conference-opening series against the Phoenix;

- After taking 2-of-3 from Elon over the weekend, Western Carolina has now won EIGHT-straight Southern Conference series dating back to last season since dropping 2-of-3 at home to the Phoenix in late March, 2013 ... the Catamounts have won 18 of their last 20 regular season league games;

- The weekend series at Elon represented the sixth time in WCU head coach Bobby Moranda's seven years in Cullowhee that the Catamounts opened SoCon play on the road ... WCU is 6-12 in SoCon road games in the opening series ... WCU has won three-straight conference-opening series, all coming on the road at The Citadel in 2012, at Davidson in 2013, and at Elon in 2014;

- Western Carolina and Elon both hit an identical average over the weekend - 24-for-98, .245 ... the Catamounts finished with eight extra base hits (four doubles, four home runs) while Elon had six (four doubles, triple, home run) ... the Catamounts turned a total of three double-plays against none by the Phoenix ... WCU's pitching staff struck out 20 against 18 by Elon - however, the Catamounts also issued 20 walks as compared to 12 by Elon in the series;



- Senior Cody Jones led WCU in batting average against Elon, finishing 6-for13 (.462) with four singles and four runs scored ... Junior Jacob Hoyle drove in a team-high four runs - two on solo home runs in the eighth and ninth innings of Saturday's win alone ... Aaron Attaway drove in three, Adam Martin two;

- Senior catcher Adam Martin enters the week riding a season-long, eight-game hitting streak ... During his current streak, the Marietta, Ga., native has four multi-hit games and has driven in a combined 15 runs ... Cody Jones has reached base safely in a team-leading 14-straight games which includes a current five-game hitting streak - and hits in 13 of his last 14 games ... He drew two walks in game two against Rider ... Bradley Strong is second with an 11-games successfully reaching streak which included a nine-game hit streak which was snapped in game two at Elon ... Strong has hits in 13 of his last 15 games.

- Western Carolina senior Aaron Attaway has played in 192-straight career games, starting all 192 of his collegiate career ... According to available research, Attaway's active 192-career start streak is the second-longest in the NCAA - just two behind William & Mary senior, Ryan Lindemuth ... From the same research, Attaway has the most starts among players who have started every game of their careers;

- Attaway moved into 17th place over the weekend for hits in a career, currently sitting with 255 career base hits ... the Morganton, N.C., native is just three hits behind 16th-place Todd Buchanan (258, 2000-03) and six behind Rod Goldston (261, 2000-03) for 15th;

- With two sacrifice flies over the weekend, Attaway moved into a tie for SEVENTH in school history with 12 sac flies ... Attaway match former teammate Ross Heffley (12, 2009-12) and Blake Murphy (12, 2004-08) ... Junior Jacob Hoyle had one sac fly at Elon to move into a tie for FIFTH on the same list, matching Steven Strausbaugh (13, 2005-07) while senior Adam Martin drove in a run on a sac fly versus the Phoenix to give him 11, in a four-way tie for 10th with Stephen Notaro (2008-11), Barrett Shaft (2005-08) and Todd Roper (2001-04);

- Senior starting pitcher Jordan Smith remained in sole possession of third place in school history with his 50th career start on Sunday ... He is just THREE starts shy of matching the all-time school record of 53 set by Jack Kimel from 1989-92 ... Smith claimed his 20th career win on Sunday, moving into a tie for eighth in program history with former pitchers Tyler Sexton (2006-08), Brian Bain (1995-98), and Ken Hare (1980, 82-84);

- Smith remains FOURTH in program history with 307.0 career innings pitched - he is just the fourth Catamount hurler to eclipse 300 career innings on the mound ... Smith also advanced into EIGHTH on the career strikeouts ledger, currently with 233;

- Junior RHP Jeremy Null moved into 11th in WCU's career record books with 216 career K's ... Null eclipsed the 214 K's by former Catamount Paul Menhart (1988-90) ... Null is just one of 15 different Catamount hurlers to surpass 200 career strikeouts;

- Junior infielder Bradley Strong remains third on WCU's career charts with 11 career triples ... With 11 three-baggers in his career, Strong is now tied for third with former Catamount Freddie Hailey who had 11 from 1984-87 ... Strong is just four triples shy of matching all-time record holder Martin Barrow (15, 1995-98);

- Strong additionally moved into a tie for 20th with 35 career stolen bases, matching Chad Moore (1992-96) ... Aaron Attaway is just ahead of Strong in a tie for 17th with 37 thefts in his career.

This Week in Catamount Baseball:
- Western Carolina had four games scheduled this week before Tuesday's game at ETSU was canceled due to inclement weather ... the Catamounts now return to action this weekend, hosting Wofford for a three-game league set in Cullowhee;

- Wofford (15-9, 1-2 SoCon) comes to Cullowhee for a second-straight season ... WCU swept the Terriers at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium a season ago to clinch the 2013 Southern Conference regular season championship in the next-to-last weekend of the season ... Last weekend, the Terriers dropped 2-of-3 at SoCon-leading Davidson, dropping the first and last games of the series, 9-7 and 7-3, before claiming a 20-7 win on Saturday;

- Western Carolina leads the all-time series with Wofford, 61-17, including a 39-6 all-time mark in games played in Cullowhee ... the Terriers won the series two seasons ago in Spartanburg, winning 2-0 in the opener and 6-5 in the back-end of a Saturday doubleheader to mark the first-time since Wofford joined the SoCon in 1998 that the Terriers had won a three-game series over the Catamounts ... WCU has won all nine league series meetings at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium including five series sweeps.
