Officials at Western Carolina have bumped first pitch of Sunday afternoon's Southern Conference series rubber match with the Elon Phoenix to 3:00 pm at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium.
Sunday's game was originally scheduled for 1:00 pm but in anticipation of morning rain showers, the game time was slid to 2:00 pm following Saturday's game. Early Lead Lifts Elon over WCU, 8-5, to Even the Series
Western Carolina fell behind early on Saturday afternoon as Elon pulled out to a six run lead through the first three innings before the Catamounts dropped the second game of the three-game series, 8-5, at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium. Despite the early deficit, WCU rallied to within a run at 6-5 after the sixth inning, but the Phoenix tacked on a pair of insurance runs for the final score.
Western Carolina won game one, 7-5, on Friday with Elon taking game two, 8-5, on Saturday afternoon to even the three-game SoCon series. WCU is slated to start junior right-hander Jordan Smith (1-2, 5.72 ERA) with Elon countering with LHP Spencer Medick (2-1, 2.55 ERA) in Sunday's game.
