Cullowhee, N.C. -
Western Carolina senior right-hander Jason Sullivan was today named the Southern Conference's Pitcher of the Week after tossing his first career complete game in the Catamounts' 1-0 win over West Virginia last Friday at the Keith LeClair Classic in Greenville, N.C.
The weekly honor is the first for Western Carolina this season and the first in Sullivan's career.
Sullivan (3-0) scattered three base hits, including just one for extra bases, in nine innings to remain perfect on the season, outdueling a pair of Mountaineer hurlers. The Shelbyville, Ill., native posted eight strikeouts against just one walk in tallying the victory.
It was the second-consecutive outing in which the Catamount pitching staff had tossed a complete game as Vance Chavis threw all nine innings in the series finale victory over Eastern Kentucky the previous Sunday in a win. WCU has matched its total number of complete games (2) thrown a year ago through its first 10 games of 2010.
Western Carolina (8-2) returns home to host Southern Illinios - Edwardsville for a two-game, non-conference series at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium on Tuesday and Wednesday. First pitch both days is scheduled for 4:00 pm and both games can be followed online with live GameTracker.
