Former Western Carolina right-handed pitcher Jared Burton was the feature of an article printed today in the The Enqurirer in Cincinnati, Ohio. Burton, who led Western in strikeouts in both the 2001 and 2002, was drafted in the eighth round in 2001 as the 248th overall pick. He continues to rank 10th on Western's career strikeouts chart with 212 during 2000-02.
'Other' Rule 5 guy hopes to stand out
St. Petersburg, Fla. - The Reds have two Rule 5 players in camp.
Unless you've been sequestered from all Cincinnati sports media, you know about Josh Hamilton.
But there's a good chance you haven't heard of Jared Burton.
Burton is a 25-year-old right-hander with a power arm suited for a late-inning role in the bullpen. The Reds drafted him from the Oakland Athletics.
