Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina sophomore right-hander Jeremy Null was today tabbed as one of six "Louisville Slugger" National Players of the Week as selected and released by Collegiate Baseball.

The honor is the first weekly award for Null who was named to the Southern Conference's All-Freshman team a year ago. Null is the first Catamount to earn national weekly honors since 2007 when Blake Murphy was also recognized by the same publication.

Moving from his position as the Sunday starter a year ago to Friday this season, Null got the Catamounts off to a great start to 2013 by striking out a career-high 13 in the season-opening victory over Pac-12 member, Washington State. The Claremont, N.C., native tossed seven innings, scattering six base hits - all singles - with one walk while holding the Cougars to just two runs.

Null posted two-or-more strikeouts in five of the seven innings he was on the mound, twice striking out the side in both the sixth and seventh innings. He sat the Cougars down in order four times during his outing.

Null was joined by Danny Collins (Troy), Clinton Freeman (ETSU), Zack Powers (Florida), Trevor Foss (Texas A&M - Corpus Christi) and Buck Farmer (Georgia Tech) as weekly award winners.

Western Carolina (2-1) closes out its season-opening, four-game home stand on Wednesday afternoon as it hosts Wake Forest at 4:00 pm at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium in Cullowhee.
