Cullowhee, N.C. -
Due to rain showers that started falling late Friday afternoon and unfavorable evening forecasts, Friday night's Southern Conference series opener between Western Carolina and The Citadel scheduled at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium has been postponed.
The teams will open the series at the regularly scheduled Saturday start time of 2:00 pm. Plans are to look at playing a doubleheader on Saturday, weather permitting, with the option of playing two games on Sunday afternoon still a possibility.
Tickets purchased for Friday night's game will be honored at the ticket office on Saturday afternoon.
A light rain began to fall on the playing surface as the teams took pregame infield/outfield drills prior to the 139th all-time meeting between the Catamounts and Bulldogs, prompting officials to delay Friday's first pitch. Forecasts call for continued rain showers throughout the evening and into the overnight hours, ultimately forcing the postponement.
Fans can follow all three games of the series online with live GameTracker (free) with live streaming video through Catamount All-Access (subscription) through CatamountSports.com. Live audio through the Citadel Sports Network (free) is also available online with play-by-play voice, Danny Reed, on the call.
