Cullowhee, N.C. -
A second band of torrential downpours Tuesday afternoon has forced the cancellation of Western Carolina's midweek nonconference home game against the 24th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs scheduled for Childress Field / Hennon Stadium.
Officials at WCU worked through the afternoon after a thunderstorm dumped close to an inch of rain on the playing surface at Ronnie G. Childress Field. Despite the best efforts of the grounds crew, the second wave of storms left the field unplayable.
The final decision to cancel the game came just before 5:00 pm after nearly 20 minutes of heavy and steady downpours washed out any progress made by the WCU field crew.
At the time of publication, no make-up date for the WCU-UGa game had been scheduled.
Western Carolina (20-9) is scheduled to complete the back-end of the home-and-home with the Clemson Tigers (14-13) on Wednesday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium with first pitch at 6:30 pm. Fans can follow all of the action on the Catamount Sports Network with air time of 6:15 pm online at CatamountSports.com.
