2005: After establishing himself as one of the top pitchers in the SoCon, left the Furman game after getting back-to-back strikeouts in the second inning and would end up having "Tommy John" surgery on his throwing elbow, sidelining him for the season ... Despite missing the second half of the season, ranked fourth in the SoCon with a 3.47 ERA ... Fanned 53 batters, while walking just 12 on the season ... Pitched six strong innings, allowing five hits and two runs, with a walk and seven strikeouts in a season-opening win over Wright State ... Struck out a career-high 10 batters with no walks in seven innings to lead WCU to a 4-1 win over Kent State ... Pitched eight solid innings to get the win versus Appalachian State, scattering six this and three runs with two walks and eight strikeouts ... Was tough luck loser to #18 College of Charleston, scattering eight hits for two runs over seven-plus innings ... Was dominant in a series opening win over The Citadel ... Although he allowed eight hits over six complete, he only allowed one run and two walks with seven strikeouts ... Pitched a complete game, but took the loss at Davidson, allowing 11 hits and five runs with a walk and six strikeouts ... 2004: Was not expected to be a weekend starter, but has ended up being the Cats No.1 weekend starter ... Was only 2-2 as he did not factor in the decision over his final six outings, but had 15 appearances and 11 starts over the span ... Ranked 10th in the SoCon as opponents only batted .264 off the right-hander ... Despite giving up a eight walks in his last two outings (11.0 innings), he only had 17 walks on the season with 63 strikeouts, a 3.71 ratio ... First extended action came in WCU's loss to Miami (OH) as he only allowed two hits and two runs with two walks and seven strikeouts in 5.0 innings ... Made his first impact, pitching the final 7.0 innings in the College of Charleston finale ... Although WCU was no-hit by the Cougars, McConnell only allowed seven hits and three runs with no walks and four strikeouts ... That outing moved him to be the team's game one weekend starter ... However, was the victim of no offense again as WCU only managed two hits at The Citadel ... Pitched a complete game (8.0 innings) versus the Bulldogs, allowing just seven hits and four runs with four strikeouts ... 2003: Spent the 2003 season at Western Carolina, sitting out the year due to a medical redshirt.
